I’m not a big believer in Valentine’s day really. I’m of the thought that if you love someone, you should show them all year round rather than just one day.
BUT… as way of a celebration, here’s a snippet from my latest novella which I will be submitting for the Renaissance Romance Publishing Beach Reads open call.
The sand was warm against my feet as I walked from the house to join the party. I’d gotten over my fit of the weepies, washed the blotches from my face with cool water and then applied minimal makeup to ensure I looked somewhat human. With a final fluff of my lose hair, I felt ready to face the world, and Morgan.
With an ice cold bottle of cider slowly warming in my hand, I walked around looking for Erica. I found her with Liam and his friends who were manning one of the barbeques. The scents hit me, causing my stomach to rumble and mouth to water. I grabbed myself a burger, slapped it in a bun with a touch of salad, and smothered it in spicy relish before sitting with Erica and eating.
I listened to the many conversations going on around me without joining in. I was still thinking about Marcus and how he was going to deal with everything when I got home. I’d ignored the situation for so long, but now I’d made my final choice, I just wanted it over and done with.
I was beginning to get a little bored of all the talk about finding the perfect wave and overuse of the word ‘dude’, that I told Erica I was going to get another drink and then mingle some. I walked away before she had the chance to either say anything or join me. The house was so cool, I sat down to relish it for a while, sipping at my fresh drink. After a while, I decided to take a walk around, see what else was happening at the party. I grabbed my sunglasses and walked back out into the heat.
“Ava?” Morgan jogged up the stairs to meet me. “Could I have a word with you?”
I hope you enjoy it!
